Q: When did you start carving ice
sculptures?
A: In 1981 I trained for over 2 years under Hiroshi Neguuchi, and
internationally recognized ice sculptor and chef, in Chicago
Q: What type of tools do you use?
A: Chainsaws, grinders, chisels, blow torches and my own invention,
the 'Frankensaw' which will shoot a stream of powdered snow about 15
feet into a crowd during demonstrations. The kids love it.
Q: How many sculptures do you make?
A: I create seven to fifteen pieces each week. Each piece
takes one to two hours, and some more complicated creations take
three hours or more.
Q: How much do the sculptures cost?
A: Most pieces range from $400 - $500 or more.
Q: What is your
favorite part of the business?
A: Entertaining. When I do a live demonstration my goal is to
keep the crowd interested and it's amazing how magical the ice is -
people stand in the freezing cold and watch and watch and watch.
